Lightships were anchored where lighthouses were needed but no land was available. The crews would stay for weeks at a time in all weather conditions. Only a few lightships remain and none are active. Automated lights have replaced the lightships.
The Chesapeake is in the harbor at Baltimore. It is part of a multi-ship tour package. I had been on the tour of the Overfalls before visiting Baltimore. The tour of the Chesapeake is not as informative and I was glad I had the information from the Overfalls tour.
The Overfalls is in Lewes, Delaware. A group of volunteers work to restore her back to the days she was active. They also give wonderful tours. If you are ever in the area visit the Overfalls.

Spring trip 2008
The photos in the following posts were taken with the Olympus camera on my Spring 2008 trip. I started in Northwest Arkansas, went south to New Orleans, east along the gulf coast and across Florida to St. Augustine, up the Atlantic coast to Lewes, DE, over to Baltimore and Washington, D.C., west to Shenandoah National Park, south to Smoky Mountain National Park, west to Nashville and Memphis and then home to Northwest Arkansas. I started in April and got home at the end of June. Get a map and connect the dots. You will see that there were great places to see along the way. There were two of us, each in our own RV, making the trip. We usually traveled 50 to 75 miles between stops. We would stay from 3 to 5 days at each stop. Come back and check out new posts.
Photos
I like to photograph places I have visited. I started this blog to let my friends and family see where I was and where I had been. The photos you see have been taken with 3 different cameras. My first digital camera was a Kodak. It took great photos but after 2 years started draining the batteries even when turned off. I purchased a Nikon D50 SLR as a replacement. It takes wonderful photos but is occasionally too large to carry. Last year I purchased the Olympus Stylus 780 to carry when I wanted to carry a smaller camera. I will post which camera is used on each post. There is a copyright on each of my photos. If you want to use any ask me in a comment or email me.
