Company In Town

My friend Nancy from Maine was here last week so I took her out to see the sights.  We visited the Museum where Sam Walton had his first store.  The Museum has just been redone.  It is updated and interactive.  From there we went to Compton Gardens and walked down to see Crystal Bridges Museum.  It is due to open this year on 11/11 at 11.  There were several people doing the same and one told us to look for what looked like a dead tree.  It is actually one of the sculptures and there is a bicycle up in the limbs.  The next day we went to Eureka Springs.  We stopped at the Pea Ridge National Battlefield, Throwncrown Chapel and went out to see the Christ of the Ozarks.  We also saw the church where you enter at the bell tower and the Crescent Hotel.   I loved having Nancy visit and we had several full days visiting and seeing the sights.

Pea Ridge National Military Park

An important battle during the Civil War was the Battle of Pea Ridge in Northwest Arkansas. Today the site of the battle is a National Military Park. The museum in the Visitor's Center has just be re-done and one of the groups I belong to took a day trip over to see the new exhibit. We watched the film, visited the museum, drove through the battleground visited with one of the volunteers at the Park and had a picnic lunch at Elkhorn Tavern. The tavern was used by both sides during the battle. The photos are from in the museum and lunch on the front porch at the tavern.
